Instalando cliente OpenArena + OSP

OpenArena es un juegoen 3D libre de acción en primera persona, basado en el motor gráfico del Quake 3 Arena, puesto a disposición pública por idSoftware bajo licencia GPL en el año 2005. Decir que el juego NO es el Quake 3 Arena sino un clon libre basado en él, y totalmente fiel al original.

Para jugarlo, los archivos que hay que descargarse e instalar son estos, y en este orden:

openarena-070-win32linux-i386-zip
openarena-071-patch

El primero es el juego y el segundo el parche. Ambos contienen dentro una carpeta llamada "openarena-0.7.0", que se descomprimirán en el mismo sitio (por ejemplo, "C:\Juegos\"). Al descomprimir el parche preguntará si queremos sustituir algunos archivos, a lo que se responderá afirmativamente.

En este momento ya sería posible jugar al OpenArena, lo que se logra haciendo doble clic sobre el archivo "openarena.exe". Veríamos una pantalla como la siguiente:



El juego tiene un modo single-player para jugar sólo contra los bots en una especie de torneo, que está bien para entrenar y familiarizarse con las armas y escenarios, y además es posible montar un servidor en local y jugar contra los bots, en partidas configurables en cuanto al número de frags de límite, el tiempo de la partida, el mapa, los bots contra los que queremos jugar...

Es importante habilitar la opción de descarga de archivos desde el servidor, gracias a la cual el propio juego podrá descargar mapas y otros archivos necesarios para el correcto funcionamiento del juego. Se puede hacer esto desde "Setup" -> "Game options", cambiando la variable "Automatic downloading" a "on".

Para jugar con el mod OSP, que tiene bastante añadidos sobre el juego original, habría que descargarse el archivo:

osp-Quake3-1.03a_full.zip

que hay que descomprimir dentro de la carpeta "openarena-0.7.0" que se crea al descomprimir el juego y el parche. De este modo tendríamos una carpeta "openarena-0.7.0" con el juego y el parche, y dentro de ella una "osp" con el mod.

Para ejecutar el juego con el OSP se puede hacer de dos formas. La primera es entrar en el juego de forma normal y desde el menú pinchar en "Mods". Aparecerá una pantalla parecida a la siguiente:


En nuestro caso habría que elegir la opción "OSP Tourney DM/CA/CTF v(1.03a)" haciendo clic en la opción "Load".

La otra forma es lanzar el juego directamente con el mod. Para ello haremos clic con el botón derecho encima del archivo "openarena.exe" y seleccionaremos la acción "Crear acceso directo", tras lo que se creará un archivo con el nombre "Acceso directo a openarena.exe"; con F2 podremos cambiarle el nombre y dejarlo en uno más descriptivo, por ejemplo "openarena-osp". Por último, haciendo clic con el botón derecho y seleccionando "Propiedades", y en la pestaña "Acceso directo" habrá que añadir en "Destino" al texto que aparece " +setcom_hunkMegs 96 +set fs_game osp" (cuidado, que hay un espacio al principio). En mi caso quedaría como "D:\Juegos\openarena-0.7.0\openarena.exe +setcom_hunkMegs 96 +set fs_game osp".

Y ya solo quedaría conectarse a un servidor para jugar. Si el servidor se monta a través de la interfaz del juego no hay problema porque al crearlo ya nos conecta automáticamente a él. En caso de conectarse a un servidor remoto, desde el menú principal del juego habrá que seleccionar "Multiplayer", luego "Specify", escribir la dirección del servidor y el puerto, y presionar "Fight".
